Summer is almost here, and we know how easy it is for our kids to pile hours on screens, practically feeding nothing stimulating to their imaginative yet growing brains. Kalaa Art and Design has designed these special Summer Half Day Camps for different age groups and interests, so if you think your kids can benefit from such niche skills, we are here to help. Art & Craft Camp for Young Champ
Arts Camps are a fun and creative summer activity. The Art Camp will spark your child’s creativity and imagination in a fun, interactive setting. Our dynamic staff helps kids turn ideas into reality, collaborate with peers, and become confident in presentations. We provide everything for your child’s art camp, and your child will always take home a masterpiece. This year we have a variety of programs.
Week 1- the focus is“Art Tells Story” Kids will draw and paint characters and scenes based on ancient kids’ stories from Jungle Book, and Panchtantra.
Week 2- the focus is“Painting Fun” Canvas/ Birdhouse/Salt painting / Finger painting/ Blow and spray painting with Straws.
Week 3- the focus is “Art & Craft” Paper craft, Block printing, Object painting, and canvas painting
Week 3- the focus is “Clay Art” Create and paint coil pots, clay food, clay animals etc.
Crochet & Sewing Camp
Week 1- “Crochet” Students will learn basic crochet techniques and make samples with- chain stitch, single crochet stitch, double crochet stitch, half-double crochet stitch, treble crochet stitch, The slip stitch.
Week 2- “Machine Sewing/”Hand Embroidery” Students will learn to use the sewing machine and develop a product at the end of the camp. Embroidery students will be introduced to five stitches (satin stitch, chain stitch, and French knots) that can be used for many designs and regional embroideries like Chickenkari, Kantha, and Kasuti.
Week 3- “Crochet” Students will learn basic crochet techniques and will make a beginner-friendly crochet project, based on their skill development.
Week 4- “Machine Sewing/”Hand Embroidery” Students will learn to use the sewing machine and develop a product at the end of the camp. Embroidery students will be introduced to five stitches (satin stitch, chain stitch, and French knots) that can be used for many designs and regional embroideries like Chickenkari, Kantha, and Kasuti.
Traditional Folk Art Workshop
Week 1 & 2- “Madhubani” have a certain style and beauty which takes a lifetime for the artisans to master. The paintings are traditionally based on mythological stories and pastoral symbols. These figures have a characteristic of the state of Mithila its culture and its traditions.
Week 3- “Warli Art” tradition has ancient roots, and can be traced back to the Neolithic period between 2500 BC to 3000 BC. They are known for their beautiful and unique style of painting which reflects the close association between human communities and nature.
Week 4- “Kalighat paintings” thrived in the 19th century around the Kali temple in Kolkata. Initially depicting Gods and Goddesses, these paintings took a sharp turn toward social reform eventually.
Payment, Missed Class & General Policy
Workshops require consistency in order to achieve the most. However, we understand that students may for unseen reasons need to miss a class. Following guidelines are made to ensure that you get the most out of your sessions at Kalaa Art & Design Studio. These policies are important so that we can be respectful of the instructor’s time and commitment.
- All the materials for the sessions will be provided by the studio.
- We will provide a small snack in between sessions.
- Your fees are due on registration. We request you pay the fees during the registration with reference to the student’s name.
- Payment may be made by cash, check, or online via Zelle/Venmo/ Google Pay ( Pay).
- Fees for missed classes are not refundable. Your camp/ workshop fee pays for your space in class for that week.
- You may make up a class by attending regular studio sessions. (please coordinate with us for scheduling the makeup class).
- Makeup can be provided during regular sessions, with 1 normal class for each day missed.
- Please ensure the children have had a good meal prior to attending class. (hungry kids have difficulty focusing)
- Students should wear masks if they have a common cold or cough.
- A hand sanitizer dispenser is available, we suggest everyone sanitize their hands at the start of the class and the end of the class.
